Introduction
To treat the skeletal transversal discrepancy prepubertally tooth-borne hyrax appliance is used, that has an effect on the midpalatal suture. The risk of unfavorable side effect is increased with age and one solution could be to use skeletal anchorage.

Aims
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dental effects of the hybrid hyrax.

Method
Twelve patients were participated (mean age: 14,0), none of them had any prior orthopedic or orthodontic treatment, accompanying disease or craniomaxillofacial discrepancy. The treatment took place at the Department of Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics at Semmelweis University. Hybrid hyrax anchored with 2 or 4 miniscrews was use to treat the skeletal transversal discrepancy (degree with 6-10mm). Impressions were take before and after the expansion. Silicon caps with steel wires were used to show the pre-and postexpansion dental tipping at the first premolars and first molars. The standardized photographes were superimposed to measured the dental effects of the expansion.

Results
At the first premolars 0,36° ( SD: 8,78°) palatal tipping was observed in contrast, at the first molar 4.66° (SD: 14,12°) buccal tipping was experienced.

Conclusion
Despite the skeletal anchorage, the first molars show buccal tipping. The explanation for this side effects could be the shift or bendig of the mini-implants. Unfavorable side effects at the premolars were not shown. Hybrid hyrax appliance can be successfully applied with aplasia, underdeveloped roots or periodontally compromised premolars. The results tend to agree with the other studies.
