'Level of satisfaction among stroke patients towards mode of physical therapy'
Background: Stroke (cerebrovascular accident) results into the brain damage of ischemic or hemorrhagic cause which ultimately may lead to paralysis of body part(s) and disabilities.
Objectives: The current research was conducted to find out the best mode of physical therapy for stroke patients by determining their level of satisfaction amongst educated and uneducated stroke patients treated by male or female physiotherapists and technicians.
Methodology: Total 72 stroke patients (40-80 years old) were recruited for the study according to particular selection criteria and were treated by male and female therapists. Non probability purposive sampling technique was used. A questionnaire based data was obtained and analyzed statistically by frequency and tabulation.
Results: The results have shown that out of 72 stroke patients, 23 (32%) were satisfied from medical treatment, 44 (61%) were satisfied from physiotherapy treatment and 3 (4%) from other treatments. The 42 (58%) patients were satisfied from male therapist, 18 (25%) were satisfied from female therapist, 9 (12%) were satisfied from male technician and 3 (4%) were satisfied from female technician. The 25 (35%) patients considered electrical modalities, 37 (51%) patients considered exercise therapy, 05 (7%) patients considered manual therapy and 05 (7%) patients considered other modes as the most beneficial intervention for their recovery.
Conclusions: It was noted that most of the stroke patients (specially educated patients) were satisfied with physiotherapy than any other mode of treatment and majority of these patients preferred exercise/manual therapy as compared to electric modalities from a male therapist.
